Tiny (Text)Books for School

Okay, so....yes, I confess...that title is slightly misleading because although some of these books may be tiny (compared to...say, the world, perhaps), they aren't the tiny you're thinking about. By tiny, I mean....my reviews for them are tiny and lackluster, and....who am I kidding...it feels like the blurb is longer than my review! Aaah! That's...just....depressing. Maybe I've grown out of writing reviews....I'm running out of things to say...and....maybe...maybe...maybe it's time for me to just give up on writing reviews altogether?! Anyways....this post isn't about that....so....I don't know....here ya go...some TINY REVIEWS....

Summer school is finally over!  And I can go enjoy my summer like all the other grade 12's!

Wooooooo!

*FREE!  I am FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

*I actually, am not free, I cost a lot, and someone has already bought me, so buying me is completely out of the question.

So!  I'm going to complain lots now.  And we begin!

Review: Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

Wow...can we all just point at me and sigh (or mock and laugh at me derisively) because my reviews are so behind?  Like...months behind?  Heart of Darkness....I read this last year!

Actually, scratch that...my reviews aren't behind.  Well, they are...but the only reason why they're behind is because I've been procrastinating on the other posts?  And I like to alternate them?  The posts just take so much time....ugh.  Well, summer is here!  I've got time!  Plenty of time!

YIKES.

It's been a SUPER long time since I've posted anything...more than a month...wow...almost two!  Well, to be fair, I DO have an excuse...I had exams...performances...graduation...prom...a bunch of stuff!   And, I guess...to be completely honest here....I was also kinda....a little tiny bit...lazy.

So!  I'm going to try to start posting again!  Yay.

*throws ripped paper in the air*

I Think She Hates Me....

Hey peoples!

It feels like it's been a long while since my last post, huh?

But I was busy!  Like, busier than I've ever been before!  I had a final chemistry* exam, a chemistry assignment where I had to write a proposal to sell some new method of rust protection, a chemistry quiz, a huge review package in math, a math test, a financial plan, a community connections assignment, a Career and Life assignment, a literary analysis of something to do with turtles, tutoring almost everyday for a few hours and sometimes even twice a day, dance performances, dance practice four days a week after school, dance practice everyday at lunch, dance journals, two dance choreographies to finish, a biology test, an in-class King Lear essay on a topic I'm not sure I interpreted right, and finally, a hand-in essay inspired by A Modest Proposal.
*I don't think I need to explain how much I hate chemistry, how it's so hard for me, and how I procrastinated on doing anything in this chemistry course I'm taking online for four months (I had to teach myself the entire chemistry 12 course in about two months!)

Whew!

Review: The Crucible by Arthur Miller

Read: Nov. 2-8, 2016
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars (although I'm tempted to give it 4)
Format: Paperback, 152 pages
Publication: October 1976 by Penguin Books
Genres: classic, play, historical fiction

Blurb from Goodreads:

"Arthur Miller's classic play about the witch-hunts and trials in 17th century Salem is a searing portrait of a community engulfed by hysteria. In the rigid theocracy of Salem, rumors that women are practicing witchcraft galvanize the town's most basic fears and suspicions. The ruthlessness of the prosecutors and the eagerness of neighbor to testify against neighbor brilliantly illuminate the destructive power of socially-sanctioned violence. Written in 1952, The Crucible famously mirrors the anti-communist hysteria that held the United States in its grip."

Okay, okay, so....

I realize that this is a....classic and it has a reputation for being a really great book.....

I also realize that there are many people who have reviewed this book and talked about all the significance and symbolism of this book....

So, because I read this book for pleasure and not school...I will "review" this as such.
Meaning, these are purely my rambling thoughts and nothing else.

Two Really Short Reviews

Peoples, I have here, two very short reviews.  Why am I choosing to combine two reviews, you ask?

Because they are very short.  That's why.  Don't think too much of it.

This first one was a classic, and kinda short....not that interesting...so...short review.  The next one....I really only thouroughly read a few pages of, so...also, short review.

Let's begin.

Something Lost....

*sigh*

I'm never going to catch up on my posts, am I?

Anyways....this happened...a few weeks before the Christmas break...which should be about a week before Christmas!

So...a few weeks before the Christmas break, we had our dance shows!  I was in so many dances...once I got off stage, I had to rush the wings where I'd rip off my clothes and all other accessories (hairbands/clips/ribbons, shoes, necklaces, bracelets, etc....) so that I could make it in time to perform in the next dance I was in.  It was all terribly rushed.

That was all fun, of course.  Even though I was always afraid I'd mess/mix up my choreographies or costumes...or not get on stage on time, or you know....STEP ON A FALLEN LIGHT BULB LIKE I DID LAST YEAR.

ANYWAYS!

What on to what this post is SUPPOSED to be about.

I lost something.

And girls!
*hey Gilf, hope you don't mind that I'm writing about this....

Valentine's Day!

Um.

Stuff!

And....

Um.

Yeah.

So.

Uh.

Valentine's Day.

Let's get started.

Review: Equus by Peter Shaffer

Equus
Read: October 24-29, 2016
Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Format: paperback, 106 pages
Publication: October 1984 by Penguin Books
Genres: play, classics

Blurb from Goodreads:

"An explosive play that took critics and audiences by storm, Equus is Peter Shaffer's exploration of the way modern society has destroyed our ability to feel passion. Alan Strang is a disturbed youth whose dangerous obsession with horses leads him to commit an unspeakable act of violence. As psychiatrist Martin Dysart struggles to understand the motivation for Alan's brutality, he is increasingly drawn into Alan's web and eventually forced to question his own sanity. Equus is a timeless classic and a cornerstone of contemporary drama that delves into the darkest recesses of human existence."

Hm.

This is actually the first play I've read....that isn't Shakespeare. And....surprisingly, it went pretty smoothly.

I'm At The Top Now! Oh....nevermind...

Hey peoples.......

I'm sad....

And angry....

And frustrated....

And disappointed....

And upset....

And I WANT TO BURN EVERYTHING DOWN!

...kidding, mostly.

Side note:  This doesn't have much to do with the actual post, but...status update from yours truly.  I feel like this right now:

Here's my tragic story....

Review: The Awakening by Kate Chopin

The Awakening

Read: Sept. 23-Oct. 13, 2016
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
Format: Hardcover, 272 pages
Publication: December 1992 by Everyman's Library
Genres: Classic, historical fiction

Blurb from Goodreads:

"When first published in 1899, The Awakening shocked readers with its honest treatment of female marital infidelity. Audiences accustomed to the pieties of late Victorian romantic fiction were taken aback by Chopin's daring portrayal of a woman trapped in a stifling marriage, who seeks and finds passionate physical love outside the confines of her domestic situation.

Aside from its unusually frank treatment of a then-controversial subject, the novel is widely admired today for its literary qualities. Edmund Wilson characterized it as a work "quite uninhibited and beautifully written, which anticipates D. H. Lawrence in its treatment of infidelity." Although the theme of marital infidelity no longer shocks, few novels have plumbed the psychology of a woman involved in an illicit relationship with the perception, artistry, and honesty that Kate Chopin brought to The Awakening."

Dear English AP Teacher.....

Hi.

I'm kind of torn between wanting you to never read this.....and.....hoping you read this so that you'll understand my....situation better.

So you know how....on November 9th, 2016, I was performing for the Remembrance day assembly, and I made the wise decision to come back to your class after the show ended, even though I had the freedom to take the rest of the block off?

Remember that?

Yeah?  Good.

So.

I've Procrastinated, I know....

Hello peoples.

Yes, yes, I know....I've been extremely inactive (no, not the physical kind, because I've got that covered with nine dance classes a week), and I've been procrastinating and procrastinating and pocrastinating.

I'm tempted to make excuses like, I have homework, I have extracurricular, I have....Gilf. BUT. If I really wanted to, I definitely could have spent some time typing out stuff....

Anyways!

So. Starting TODAY, I will make more of an effort to post stuff....really! You see, I have a free block in school now! And I've finished everything I can do, and Gilf is too busy to talk to me....so! Time to type stuff.
*ugh, these keys are so uncomfortable to type out, and they're making my finglets sore!

Now, even though I have a bunch of posts I still owe you, I want to get a particular one out of the way first.  I had this idea one day while I was sitting on the toilet. Yes. Don't think about it too long.

Almost....ALMOST.........!

Hey peoples!

Like most other kids in grade eleven, in high school, school's ending soon!  I'm so incredibly glad...so happy!

(read: I have exams.  I am so completely stressed out of my mind, and I neeeeed more sleep!  Gahhh! I have succumbed and disgraced myself to singing songs in different voices in different pitches, I'm sure I'm sound so horrendously bad, people would laugh their eyebrows off!)

Anyways!

This will be a ranting post, you've been warned....

Review: Macbeth 1989 by William Shakespeare

Macbeth by William Shakespeare

Read: May 9-June 6, 2016
Rating: 4 of 5 stars
Pages: 258
Genres: classics, Shakespeare

Shakespeare! FUN.

My English class is just finishing up the unit on Macbeth, and I have to say....Macbeth.....very well done!

Ah, Macbeth....

The bloody play....

When my teacher told me it'd be bloody...I wasn't expecting this! So much...bloodiness...and...unnecessary killing....

For those of you who don't know what Macbeth is about, Macbeth is a soldier to the king, Duncan.  One day, he comes upon three witches who call him three different things, one of them being king.

Macbeth foolishly decides to believe the witches and does everything in his power to get on the throne.  Lots of stabbing!  Lots of blood!  Lots of...blood.

Choreographing A Dance (read: some dance stuff plus complaints)

Hello peoples!

So!  The week of dance performances is over!

*I really need to catch up on posts...always behind...*sigh*

After five shows, I'm exhausted.  And because these shows happened during school time...I've missed many of my classes.  I missed biology!  One of my FAVOURITE CLASSES!  Twice!  I missed french....twice...eh.  And a CS block and a dance block.

Aaaaanyways.

MACBETH

HI.

PEOPLES.

I.

AM.

UPSET.

...but at the same time...also, somewhat happy.

So, the other day...in my English class, the teacher was handing out Macbeth books...because we were starting Macbeth.

Now, you see how I've stated the obvious?  Let me do it some more.  I have a point to this, okay?  Be patient...
  • I like reading
  • I like books
  • I like new books
  • I like smelling books
  • I am shy
  • I am super shy
Now that I've pointed out more obvious stuff...let's begin.
Or...continue.

Ah...I really need to catch up on my posts...really....

So, I'm hoping for this to be a short post today because...because...uh...I've had complaints about my posts being too long?
