My Very Special Someone (part 2)

wh
Hey peoples.
*Hi Gilf!
Guess what this post is about?!

Remember that post I typed.....way back in March?  You know...that super long 8,000-word post that was so long you probably skimmed through most of it......that one post where I said waaaay too much, and....okay...fine.  This post...this post right here.

So!  My Very Special Someone (part 1)!....but...part 2!  How exciting!  I'll try to make this one shorter though, much shorter!

So...some of you may be wondering what took me so long....and my answer would be procrastination that I needed more time!  This is an...important post, okay?!  And I needed time to make it perfect!

Review: Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

Passenger (Passenger, #1)
Read: Sept. 22-Oct. 13, 2016
Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Format: Hardcover, 486 pages
Publication: January 2016 by Disney Hyperion
Genres: Adventure, romance, fantasy, historical fiction

Blurb from Goodreads:

"Passage, n.
i. A brief section of music composed of a series of notes and flourishes.
ii. A journey by water; a voyage.
iii. The transition from one place to another, across space and time.

In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.

Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods—a powerful family in the colonies—and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, Nicholas’ passenger, can find. In order to protect her, he must ensure she brings it back to them—whether she wants to or not.
Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods’ grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home... forever."

Review: The Awakening by Kate Chopin

The Awakening

Read: Sept. 23-Oct. 13, 2016
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
Format: Hardcover, 272 pages
Publication: December 1992 by Everyman's Library
Genres: Classic, historical fiction

Blurb from Goodreads:

"When first published in 1899, The Awakening shocked readers with its honest treatment of female marital infidelity. Audiences accustomed to the pieties of late Victorian romantic fiction were taken aback by Chopin's daring portrayal of a woman trapped in a stifling marriage, who seeks and finds passionate physical love outside the confines of her domestic situation.

Aside from its unusually frank treatment of a then-controversial subject, the novel is widely admired today for its literary qualities. Edmund Wilson characterized it as a work "quite uninhibited and beautifully written, which anticipates D. H. Lawrence in its treatment of infidelity." Although the theme of marital infidelity no longer shocks, few novels have plumbed the psychology of a woman involved in an illicit relationship with the perception, artistry, and honesty that Kate Chopin brought to The Awakening."

Dear English AP Teacher.....

Hi.

I'm kind of torn between wanting you to never read this.....and.....hoping you read this so that you'll understand my....situation better.

So you know how....on November 9th, 2016, I was performing for the Remembrance day assembly, and I made the wise decision to come back to your class after the show ended, even though I had the freedom to take the rest of the block off?

Remember that?

Yeah?  Good.

So.

I know, I know....I said I'd start posting more regularly....and I will!  Eventually!  As soon as I finish everything I ever wanted to do and have absolutely nothing else to do!

Kidding, kidding.....kinda.

So!

In my defence!  I was so prepared to type out a post about something that isn't a book review a few days ago....but then this bloody book had other plans for me!

Knowledge Test

Peoples!

You know how in Canada, once you pass your written knowledge test and get your L, you can DRIVE?!

You know!  Like, getting behind a wheel and spinning the wheel thing...and moving a giant machine that's a trillion times heavier than you?

Yeah!

Well, I'm turning 17 this September....and I only just took my knowledge test in August.

I'm well aware that most sixteen-year-olds can't wait to take the test and start driving....I'm....not one of those people, but my mom's been pushing and shoving me to learn so that she won't have drive anymore, and just spend her days relaxing at home while I drive my siblings and myself everywhere....ugh.

Well, then, a YEAR after my birthday, I've finally read the stupid book, and took the test.  Yay me.

I've Procrastinated, I know....

Hello peoples.

Yes, yes, I know....I've been extremely inactive (no, not the physical kind, because I've got that covered with nine dance classes a week), and I've been procrastinating and procrastinating and pocrastinating.

I'm tempted to make excuses like, I have homework, I have extracurricular, I have....Gilf. BUT. If I really wanted to, I definitely could have spent some time typing out stuff....

Anyways!

So. Starting TODAY, I will make more of an effort to post stuff....really! You see, I have a free block in school now! And I've finished everything I can do, and Gilf is too busy to talk to me....so! Time to type stuff.
*ugh, these keys are so uncomfortable to type out, and they're making my finglets sore!

Now, even though I have a bunch of posts I still owe you, I want to get a particular one out of the way first.  I had this idea one day while I was sitting on the toilet. Yes. Don't think about it too long.

Review: Macbeth 1989 by William Shakespeare

Macbeth by William Shakespeare

Read: May 9-June 6, 2016
Rating: 4 of 5 stars
Pages: 258
Genres: classics, Shakespeare

Shakespeare! FUN.

My English class is just finishing up the unit on Macbeth, and I have to say....Macbeth.....very well done!

Ah, Macbeth....

The bloody play....

When my teacher told me it'd be bloody...I wasn't expecting this! So much...bloodiness...and...unnecessary killing....

For those of you who don't know what Macbeth is about, Macbeth is a soldier to the king, Duncan.  One day, he comes upon three witches who call him three different things, one of them being king.

Macbeth foolishly decides to believe the witches and does everything in his power to get on the throne.  Lots of stabbing!  Lots of blood!  Lots of...blood.

Review: Liars, Inc. by Paula Stokes

Liars, Inc.

Read: May 5-13, 2016
Rating: 4 of 5 stars
Pages: 362
Genres: realistic fiction, mystery, romance, thriller, contemporary

Blurb from Goodreads:

"Max Cantrell has never been a big fan of the truth, so when the opportunity arises to sell forged permission slips and cover stories to his classmates, it sounds like a good way to make a little money and liven up a boring senior year. With the help of his friends Preston and Parvati, Max starts Liars, Inc. Suddenly everybody needs something and the cash starts pouring in. Who knew lying could be so lucrative?

When Preston wants his own cover story to go visit a girl he met online, Max doesn’t think twice about hooking him up. Until Preston never comes home. Then the evidence starts to pile up—terrifying clues that lead the cops to Preston’s body. Terrifying clues that point to Max as the murderer.
Can Max find the real killer before he goes to prison for a crime he didn’t commit? In a story that Kirkus Reviews called "Captivating to the very end," Paula Stokes starts with one single white lie and weaves a twisted tale that will have readers guessing until the explosive final chapters."

The blurb is what initially attracted me to this book. The idea of selling lies as a business venture? Cool!

And then you sell a lie to a friend to go meet this girl online...and he goes missing?
Uh oh!

Review: Mythic Misadventures Series by Carolyn Hennesy

I started reading this series a long...LONG time ago.  Unfortunately, I didn't write reviews back then...or documented when I started and finished reading them.  All I remember is that I read them before

*sigh*

Oh well...

So...from the beginning to end...we have...Pandora Gets Jealous....to....Pandora Gets Frightened.  All great books...I also rated them all a solid 4 stars.  HUH.

Anyways...so, to summarise the series...Pandora, aged 13, brings the infamous box of evils to school for a project.  Accidents happened, and tada!  The box was opened, unleashing all kinds of evils out into the world.  Evils like...jealousy, anger, greed, and fear.  Yep, all these nasty things were let out into the world.  And Pandora was called to catch them all, and put them back in the box.

  • I like reading
  • I like books
  • I like new books
  • I like smelling books
  • I am shy
  • I am super shy
Now that I've pointed out more obvious stuff...let's begin.

Review: The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

Read: Feb.16-April 7, 2016
Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Pages: 479
Genres: adventure, dystopia, fantasy, thriller

Blurb from Goodreads:

"Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him -- something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she? Why wasn't she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? Propelled by Todd's gritty narration, readers are in for a white-knuckle journey in which a boy on the cusp of manhood must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is. "

OKAY, firstly, this is not my fault.
This monster of a book was almost 500 pages, and contrary to what people think, I don't read that fast.  This would be the second book club book I've read, and my reasons for reading it...well, I know of ONE friend who knows...she also happens to have the link to this blog...I wonder if she's reading this now....

Review: Disappearing Moon Cafe: A Novel by Sky Lee

Disappearing Moon Cafe
Read: March 8-19, 2016
Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Pages: 288
Genres: Canada, historical fiction

Blurb from Goodreads:

"Sometimes funny, sometimes scandalous, always compelling, this extraordinary first novel chronicles the women of the Wong family from frontier railroad camps to modern-day Vancouver. As past sins and inborn strengths are passed on from mother to daughter to granddaughter, each generation confronts, in its own way, the same problems — isolation, racism, and the clash of cultures. Moving effortlessly between past and present, between North America and China, Sky Lee weaves fiction and historical fact into a memorable and moving picture of a people’s struggle for identity."

Ah.  English novels.  What fun.

This was an interesting kind of book.  Although...I can't say for sure if it was the good kind or the bad.  Anyhoo.

This book was set in Vancouver* and written in chunks...or, unchronologically.  And this just made reading the book plain weird.  Or, confusing.

*yes, my English teacher has this strange obsession with Canadian literature...

*cough* I Hate *sniff sniff* Being Sick *blows nose loudly*

...hello peoples...

This post...may be sharing too much...but...heh, read at your own risk.

If the title didn't already give it away, I have officially dubbed myself as "sick".

Nothing too horrible, of course...just some mild coughing (dry cough), and the most annoying and frustrating plugged/runny nose.

Now, you people all know that I'm terrified of germs, and if you didn't...you know now.  I might write a separate post on my relationship with germs and cleanliness later, but for now, I'm sure that little bit of information will suffice.

So, my parents haven't been having the best relationship as of late, but, they always got back together...this time, however...I sense something is different.  And I think I'm worried.

Anyways...my dad's birthday...and I was forbidden to wish him a happy birthday.  Do you know how devastated I am?!  Do you?!

Stories Told In French Class

Hello peoples!

Remember a long, long time ago when I wrote the post about my french teacher?  It was titled, Once Upon a Time in French Class..., and because I am the kind person I am, I have thoughtfully provided a link here.  To sum up that entire post, my grade 10 French teacher told the class why he wasn't here last day.  He told us about how much he loved his daughter...all the things he would do for her...and because my relationship with my dad had been...questionable...I teared up and wrote a post on it.

Aaaanyways...the last day of school before spring break, I had french class.  Except I have a different teacher this year...aaand I'm straying from the point.

Review: Splintered by A.G. Howard

Splintered (Splintered, #1)
Read: Feb. 3-March. 3, 2016
Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Pages: 371
Genres: Fantasy, romance, retellings

Blurb from Goodreads:

"This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence.

Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own

"Eden was always good at being good. Starting high school didn’t change who she was. But the night her brother’s best friend rapes her, Eden’s world capsizes.

What was once simple, is now complex. What Eden once loved—who she once loved—she now hates. What she thought she knew to be true, is now lies. Nothing makes sense anymore, and she knows she’s supposed to tell someone what happened but she can’t. So she buries it instead. And she buries the way she used to be.

Told in four parts—freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year."

My Very Special Someone (part 1)!

Okay, peoples?!

I'm finally going to write this.  This is the post you've all been waiting for, have been begging me to write...I know it's going to be impossible for me to cover everything I feel about this person in only one blog post*...which is one reason why I've delayed the writing of this post...another would be the fact that I'm addicted to procrastination.  It's a horrible addiction, really.

Also...yeah, I know...I haven't posted something in quite a while, so bear with me as I unleash my words....

*actually, if you use your super investigative detector skills, you'll find that I refer to him in many of my posts...you may even find a name somewhere....

**also, I think this will be part one of a two part series...so there's this one...and there will be another one coming...on this one meeting we had...

***oh, and to my very special someone reading this...I hope you're happy now.  I've finally written this.  And now you'll know all about what I think of you...which is kinda unfair, really...why don't I get to read enormous posts dedicated to me, from you?  Yeah, yeah, you don't have a blog, but bah!  Minor details...send a post to me mentally, 'kay?

****WARNING: THIS WILL BE A VERY LONG POST.  Like, seriously, a giant post...one so big, your mind will explode!  But rest assured, I've take the necessary precautions...you'll just feel some small irritation in your eyes, and maybe some itching....

*****okay, last one...I'll be "talking" to this very special someone throughout this post, and you'll know because I've made the text a different colour...

So.  Since I can't possibly say everything I want to say...I have made a list of things I wish to tell you about...in long paragraph format.  And maybe some other stuff I'll randomly decide to throw in....so...pretty much just a regularly formatted post...and by that, I mean, a mess, with no format whatsoever.

Review: Ru by Kim Thúy

Ru
Read: Feb 12-15, 2016
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
Pages: 141
Genres: Canada, historical fiction

Blurb from Goodreads:

"Ru. In Vietnamese it means lullaby; in French it is a small stream, but also signifies a flow--of tears, blood, money. Kim Thúy's Ru is literature at its most crystalline: the flow of a life on the tides of unrest and on to more peaceful waters. In vignettes of exquisite clarity, sharp observation and sly wit, we are carried along on an unforgettable journey from a palatial residence in Saigon to a crowded and muddy Malaysian refugee camp, and onward to a new life in Quebec. There, the young girl feels the embrace of a new community, and revels in the chance to be part of the American Dream. As an adult, the waters become rough again: now a mother of two sons, she must learn to shape her love around the younger boy's autism. Moving seamlessly from past to present, from history to memory and back again, Ru is a book that celebrates life in all its wonder: its moments of beauty and sensuality, brutality and sorrow, comfort and comedy."

Another book I had to read for English...this being one of the shorter ones...but...frankly...not the most interesting.

...Valentine's Day....

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo...Valentine's Day happened peoples!

Roses!  Hearts!  Chocolates!  All that good stuff!

Now, I was going to post this AFTER I posted the post introducing you to this special guy...buuuuut, oh wells!  You'll just have to read along and hope I've told you enough to understand the intense passion I put into writing this.  Tee hee!

*or...you could just NOT read this and wait for the other post to come out first...but...who knows how long that'll take me.  Heh, your call.
**also keep in mind that I had originally planned to post this the day BEFORE Valentine's Day...or at the very least, ON Valentine's Day...but life had other plans for me...so I may have mixed up some tenses....

Review: Wide-Awake Princess Series by E.D. Baker

Hey peoples!

As you will clearly see later on in this post...I started reading this series a long time ago...so...my reviews are pretty much nonexistant...and I didn't even organize my dates as meticulously as I do now...also...you might notice that I became more harsh and critical with my reviews as the years went by...or maybe not...I don't know...you be the judge...then remember to tell me, okay?

I'd also like to confess something...I may have read the first two maybe three books in this series without any inhibitions, but as I grew older, I started becoming more conscious of what other people thought of me...so I now find myself reading up to five books at a time:

  • the book I'm not ashamed of reading and bring to school to read for our beloved silent reading periods (which are irritatingly not silent)

  • the eBook that I read on my HTC, the much more mortifying reads that I hope none of you ever find...(nono, don't you go purposely looking for my secretive stuff now, okay?)

  • the childish book belonging to a series I started way back in elementary school but am now too old to be seen carrying to school, also...I bring these books out on weekends when my other non-shameful book is too thick, or a hardcover.

  • the ARC that I received and must read so that I can review, hopefully before the book is published....

  • and the occasional audiobook I happen to be interested in.
But I digress.  Back to the post at hand!  So here we have a series that I started reading way back in 2013, practically a century now.  As you can see in 2013, I haven't really understood the concept of reviewing yet (a pity), so...non existent reviews coming your way...well, I have a star rating, but that's not a review.

Review: Poet Robot by E.I Wong

Poet RobotRead: Feb. 2-8, 2016
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Pages: 124
Genre: humour
Expected publication: April 20th 2016

Blurb from Goodreads (okay...not really a blurb, just some information I found about the book...):

"a collection of humor, poetry and short stories from E.I. Wong's blog, "A Narcissist Writes Letters, to Himself." "

Review: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)
Read: Jan. 27-Feb 3, 2016
Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Pages: 338
Genres: Romance, Fantasy (Paranormal)

Blurb from Goodreads:

"I have a curse
I have a gift

I am a monster
I'm more than human

My touch is lethal
My touch is power

I am their weapon
I will fight back

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior."

Aaaah! I'm Scared!

Hello everyone!

I've had this post in my "draft" for at least a millennia now, maybe more...so.  I'm going to finish writing this today!

*Also...YOU PEOPLE FORGOT TO REMIND ME TO POST A CERTAIN POST BEFORE THE END OF JANUARY!  THAT'S IT.  I KNOW I CAN NEVER RELY ON YOU PEOPLE AGAIN!  GAAAAH!

So...if you know me well, or have been lucky enough to see me jump (when I'm surprised), you would probably know I'm...very easily scared.

Review: Shadow Falls Series by C.C Hunter

I'm compiling my reviews for the different books in this series to this...long post with...uuuuuh....words are failing me right now...so I'll just get on with this.  So!  This series starts with Born at Midnight where a girl with strange abilities goes to a camp with strange people who also have strange abilities.  But even here, this girl still can't fit in.  Keep in mind that the first book I read was in 2013, so the review might not be all that great....all I did was copy and paste my review from 2013...really....have fun reading my thoughts as a little squealing girl who hasn't read much...so has really low expectations...
*actually...my first review is kinda sad...even as a fourteen year old...my writing sucked.....uuuuuuuuuugh....don't look at me like that........

Future Posts...

Helllllloooooooo readers!

It's late January, yes...I know...but here are some of my attempted resolutions for the new year.

I still can't believe it's 2016...and you know what's odd?

The fact that I'm not writing 2015 instead of 2016, noooo, instead, I'm writing July...2016.  WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?  Also, I am soooooo not prepared to face the new year...you know how some people take the new year head on and make all sorts of impressive resolutions saying, "this year will be better"?  Yeah...I'm not one of those people...I want to go back to 2010 and hide there forever...no homework...no stress...no worries, no...other stuff.

Anyhoo....

Now, as you people all know, procrastination is a dear friend of mine...BUT, I have many posts planned for 2016...assuming I'll get to them at all...here's a "sneak peek"...

*some of you people may be wondering, why don't you just WRITE the posts instead of TELLING us you're going to write it?  To those people I would say, hey...I'm procrastinating the writing of posts by writing a post about what I will post.  Deal with it.  Hmph.

My Blog Stats for 2015!

Hey guys! Girls, too! But...that is how the saying usually goes, right? I didn't mean to just greet the males who read my blog...I meant...I mean, I know there are females who read this blog too, but...oh, you know what I mean…

So! Remember that post about my reading stats for 2015? Well, here are my blog stats for 2015, I meant to do this earlier, but procrastination....

So I guess I'll start with a list of sorts...?

Grammar, and My Intense Hatred of It.

Hello people!

Do you know what I'm horrible at?

Person:
Hmm...let's see...playing the piano?  Talking?  Dancing?  Or how about using technology?  Listening and paying attention to people?  Breathing and blinking in even intervals.  Oh, and how could I forget?!  You're horrible at pretty much anything you attempt at achieving.  Did I get them all right?  I did, didn't I?  Of course I did, because I'm not a failure, like you.

Me:
Yes, yes...and yes.  Oh, that too...and that, and that...that, and yes, that as well...unfortunately.

*sigh* someone, throw me a pity party because I'll probably suck at doing that too...why bother trying... *another sigh*

Aaaaanyways...something else I'm horrible at?  Grammar.  My English class started our unit on grammar the other day...and based on the title of this post you can probably tell how it turned out for me, right?

Bloglovin!

Hello people!

Have you ever heard of Bloglovin?

Well, in case you haven't...it's...ah, who am I kidding, I'm not good at explaining stuff, I'll just make a big mess out of it.   Google "bloglovin" if you're really curious.

I've been following blogs on Bloglovin for a year (maybe two) now.  I'm following over 600 blogs...but shh...I do have a life, okay?

I may have discovered Bloglovin over a year ago, but I've only just discovered that I can "claim" my blog...I searched up the link for my blog, and what do you know!  It's there!  So I claimed it.  Woo!

Anyhoo...in order to claim it, I had to put the link below somewhere in a blog post...so...ta da!

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

You don't actually have to follow my blog with Bloglovin (duh), in fact, feel free to blatantly ignore this post...it's just here for...reasons.

So...to make this post even more unnecessary, please forget you ever read this post.....

*gestures mysteriously around you*

fooooooooorgeeeeeeeeet.........fooooooooorrrrrrrrrgeeeeeeeet..................!

My Reading Stats for 2015!

I like to read.

I like to read books.

I read lots of books this year.
Err...I mean, last year...pardon my mistake.

And my sentence combining capabilities are clearly lacking.

Review: Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden

Three Day RoadRead: Dec. 28, 2015 to Jan. 10, 2016
Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Pages: 408
Genres: Historical Fiction (Canada), War

Blurb from Goodreads:

"It is 1919, and Niska, the last Oji-Cree medicine woman to live off the land, has received word that one of the two boys she grudgingly saw off to war has returned. She leaves her home in the bush of Northern Ontario to retrieve him, only to discover that the one she expected is actually the other.

Xavier Bird, her sole living relation, gravely wounded and addicted to the army’s morphine, hovers somewhere between the living world and that of the dead. As Niska paddles him the three days home, she realizes that all she can offer in her attempt to keep him alive is her words, the stories of her life.

In turn, Xavier relates the horrifying years of war in Europe: he and his best friend, Elijah Whiskeyjack, prowled the battlefields of France and Belgium as snipers of enormous skill. As their reputations grew, the two young men, with their hand-sewn moccasins and extraordinary marksmanship, became both the pride and fear of their regiment as they stalked the ripe killing fields of Ypres and the Somme.

Inspired in part by real-life World War I Ojibwa hero Francis Pegahmagabow, Three Day Road is beautifully written and told with unblinking focus, it is a remarkable tale, one of brutality, survival, and rebirth."

I Can Smell You...

Okay, so here's a weird fact about me: I like to sniff things.

Yes, yes, very weird...but let's not dwell on what you're probably starting to imagine or think: what have you been poking your nose into?  Or...what have you been sniffing?

Moving on.

I honestly don't know when it first started...although I do know that I wasn't always so...sniffy.  I also know that this is a bad habit...and I'm...not really working toward amending this habit of mine.  My mom keeps telling me that I should stop because one day, I will sniff something, or many somethings, and it will be very, very bad...mold might find its way up my nose, or something equally horrifying...okay, eww...I could have phrased that better...

I Finally Have A...

Kindle!

I love reading.  You know that.

So...ever since I heard the name Kindle, I've been curious.  When I finally saw it before my very eyes though...I immediately turned my head away in disgust.

How could the people of this world even begin to try to replicate the joys of reading a physical book with this...this device?  It's a massive wrong.  Wrong, I tell you!

But it wasn't until a few months later, I was lugging around a 600 paged hardcover book around in my bag that I started to reconsider a Kindle, which would weigh...much, much less.  Don't get me wrong, I had no regrets about carrying such a monstrosity of a book in my bag.  I would gladly take everything out just so that I could put that one book in.  Of course, my mom would never let that happen, so I'd have to carry it in my hands...or stuff it in my jacket...but...wouldn't that be silly...this large bulge in my shirt...ha.

Mintvine

Hello dear readers!

This...is a strange kind of post...I say strange because I'll be introducing to you...not a book, but this site that I've been making money from.  And by money, I mean Amazon giftcards.

Now, before you lovely readers all start running away shouting, "FAKE!"...well...if you were going to run from me, you would have already done so...huh?

Aaanyways...I'll just start my little post now, and heh, it's your lost of you decide it's fake and move on....

So, a while ago...I had this phase where I was obsessed with online survey sites and earning money from them.  When I was just a kid, (okay, fine...it wasn't that long ago), my mom would give me these surveys to do because she was too lazy to do them.  Those surveys would earn her airmiles, or points that would convert to airmiles.  After doing a few of them, I decided that I was tired of earning points for my mom*.  I wanted to earn my own.

*I'd always be yelling, "Mama, what's our annual household income?!  Mama, what's a carbonated drink?  Do we have those?  Do we drink them?  How many times a week do we drink them?  Do we have special kinds?  How much are you willing to pay for them?  When was the last time you bought them?  What method of payment did you use, and why?  Which one is your favourite?  Least favourite?  What year was Daddy born?  Does he have a bad health?  What's your health history like...?"  It would go on and on, and on and on...until she got so tired of it...hee hee!

Hello? Blogger? I've Got Good News...

Well hello there people!

Have you ever heard of WordPress?  In case you haven't, it's pretty much the same as Blogger.  When I first decided to start a blog, I chose Blogger, but then somewhere along the way, I decided that I'd also like to try WordPress, to see which one my indecisive mind would like more.
